Four changes took place at the top Monday when the VHSL released its Week 9 prep football Rating Scale points.
Riverbend (Region 5D), Dinwiddie (Region 4B), Abingdon (Region 3D) and Clarke County (Region 2D) moved into the No. 1 spot in their respective regions.
Teams retaining their No. 1 spots were Oscar Smith, Stafford, Hayfield and James Madison in Class 6, Green Run, Maury and William Fleming in Class 5; Phoebus, John Champe and George Washington in Class 4; Lafayette, Kettle Run and Liberty Christian in Class 3; Poquoson, Glenvar and Graham in Class 2; and Rappahannock, Altavista, Bath County and Rye Cove in Class 1.
Twenty-nine VHSL teams remain undefeated including seven in Class 3 and six in Class 5. At least three will fall this week with Warwick vs. Phoebus, Armstrong vs. Thomas Jefferson, and Poquoson vs. Bruton.
Conversely, two 2023 state champions — Freedom-Woodbridge and Galax are winless in 2024.
The unbeaten VHSL teams are below:
Class 6 — Oscar Smith (8-0), Battlefield (8-0), James Madison (8-0), Washington-Liberty (8-0).
Class 5 — Green Run (9-0), Warwick (9-0), Maury (8-0), Granby (8-0), William Fleming (8-0), Matoaca (8-0).

Each team’s average at the conclusion of the regular season determines its position for the postseason. Games played against non-VHSL-recognized opponents do not factor into the ratings.
