Two weeks remain in the Virginia High School League football regular season with 19 teams boasting perfect records including at least one in each of the state’s six classifications.

Here are a few notes heading into Week 10 with the region points standings listed below:

  • Region 4D and Region 3D each have three undefeated teams with Sherando, Jefferson Forest and George Washington in 4D; and William Byrd, Carroll County and Magna Vista in 3D.
  • Patrick Henry-Roanoke is No. 4 in Region 5C with an excellent chance to have a first-round playoff game at home.
  • Regions 2B, 2C and 1A are the only three regions to not have an unbeaten or a one-loss team. Two of those regions — 2B and 1A — produced a VHSL champion in 2026.
  • Despite a victory over Cave Spring this fall and a better overall record than the Knights to date, Northside is currently No. 9 behind the No. 8 Knights. Northside has not received much help from its opponents as the Vikings have victories over four winless teams — Pulaski County, Hidden Valley, Rustburg and Franklin County.
  • Region 6C is one region that has adopted its own formula for postseason qualification and seeding. The region uses a Ratings Percentage Index in which 40 percent of the rating is based on a team’s record, 40 percent is based on that team’s opponents record and another 20 percent is based on the record of those opponents’ opponents. Almost none of the 15 eligible teams in Region 6C is ranked where it would be under the old VHSL system.  The biggest beneficiary so far is Lake Braddock, which is No. 6 but would have been No. 10 in the old system.
