Recent heavy storms damaged the Bolar Flat marina dock at the north end of Lake Moomaw in Bath County, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The day use area, including the dock and boat launch, are closed for public health and safety until further notice. Boaters on Lake Moomaw are cautioned to avoid approaching the marina from the lake side.

Boaters should access Lake Moomaw from the Fortney Branch boat launch on the south side.
Preliminary findings indicate at least one mooring cable that connected the dock snapped. Forest Service staff are working to secure the slip portion from drifting further afield and creating a boating hazard. The Forest Service does not have an estimate at this time of how long it will take to secure the facilities.

“Public safety is always our first priority. I know boaters in Bath County and beyond cherish visiting Lake Moomaw from Bolar Flats; however, it is our duty to provide safe recreation opportunities,” said District Ranger Theresa Tanner in a statement. “Thank you for your patience as we work to make necessary repairs.”
