The town of Christiansburg is planning to sell a portion of its Huckleberry Park off Peppers Ferry Road for an undisclosed commercial development.

The town council set an Oct. 27 public hearing on the sale of two parcels โ€” totaling just more than five acres. The land is part of the front part of the park nearest to Peppers Ferry. The park is between 50 and 60 acres in size.

The town says the sale was always a possibility since the park โ€” which opened in 2023 at a cost of about $18 million โ€” was being planned. The town declined to release any other details.

โ€œThat is still sort of in negotiation, and the conversation right now is between the potential buyer and our legal team,โ€ said town Public Information Officer Christiana Bolt, โ€œSo at this time, weโ€™re not really ready to share any information about who that might be.โ€

Three commercial parcels could be sold by the town to support the parkโ€™s construction cost, according to town online information.ย

โ€œItโ€™s been on the market for quite some time, definitely since the park has opened,โ€ said Bolt, โ€œbut itโ€™s just been finding the right company that wants to come and that makes the most sense.โ€

More information regarding the sale is expected to be made available before the Oct. 27 hearing, Bolt said.ย That hearing is set for 7 p.m. at the town municipal building.

Other town officials did not respond to a request for comment.
