A free healthcare clinic coming to Pearisburg in November is looking for medical professionals to volunteer their time and services. The free clinic, hosted by Remote Area Medical, is returning to the Giles County community for the second consecutive year.
Remote Area Medical is a Tennessee-based nonprofit organization that hosts free pop-up clinics in rural communities across the country. RAM relies on volunteers to provide professional vision, medical and dental care to patients who attend.
All types of medical personnel are needed, said Allison McCauley-Cook, media relations coordinator for RAM. While there is no set number of volunteers needed, the more medical professionals who volunteer their time and services, the more patients RAM can serve.
There is particular demand for optometrists, dental hygienists, dentists, doctors and women’s health providers, McCauley-Cook said.
Clinicians can register to volunteer on the RAM website.
These clinics aim to remove some of the most common barriers to accessing healthcare in rural communities: distance, cost and lack of insurance.
Last year, RAM held clinics in 27 states, including at least four in Virginia. With the ability to make glasses on site, RAM made and distributed about 15,000 glasses in 2025 to people across the country. It also provided over 4,000 fillings and about 11,500 extractions.
Pearisburg residents and anyone from the surrounding area may access free dental, vision and medical care at the two-day RAM clinic. No insurance or personal identification is required.
The clinic will be hosted on Nov. 7 and 8 at Giles High School, 1825 Wenonah Ave.
