Virginia Humanities announces grants
Virginia Humanities has announced $113,193 in grants to 24 nonprofit organizations.
The announcement is the first round of grants to be awarded following the elimination of $1.7 million in Virginia Humanities’ federal funding due to cuts to the National Endowment for the Humanities by the Department of Government Efficiency earlier this year, according to a news release from the agency.
The announcement also includes the first round of grants from two new regional humanities centers in Wise (UVA Wise) and Norfolk (WHRO).

Public invited to comment on Virginia wildlife plan
The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources is seeking public input for the Virginia Wildlife Action Plan, which is intended to guide statewide wildlife and habitat conservation for certain species.
Since 2005, the plan has been reviewed and updated every 10 years. To review the draft and provide feedback, visit the department’s website.
The public comment period is open through July 18, according to the department. The draft will be presented to the Board of Wildlife Resources in August, then to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for final approval.

Claude Moore seeks applicants for health care scholarships
A statewide nonprofit focused on developing a health care workforce is accepting scholarship applications from students who want to pursue careers in health sciences.
Claude Moore Opportunities and local partners will fund scholarships in each region of the state as part of the Virginia Partnership for Health Science Careers.
Applicants must be 18 years or older and enrolled in a health care-related education or workforce development program for the fall semester, according to the program’s website. The scholarships can be used to cover costs including tuition, licensing, textbooks, transportation and child care.
Students must apply for a scholarship in their region of Virginia; links to all applications are online.
