Second week of VHSL rating scale points released; 35 teams unbeaten

Week 2 of the official Virginia High School League Rating Scale points were released Monday, and the list of undefeated VHSL teams is now at 35.

Heading into Monday night’s schedule of three games, here are the teams with perfect slates by classification:

Class 6 — James Madison (7-0), Washington-Liberty (7-0), Oscar Smith (6-0), Stafford (6-0), Battlefield (6-0), Hayfield (6-0).

Class 5 — Green Run (7-0), Warwick (7-0), Maury (6-0), Granby (6-0), William Fleming (6-0), Matoaca (6-0).

Class 4 — Sherando (7-0), Phoebus (6-0), Huguenot (6-0), John Champe (6-0).

Class 3 — Lafayette (6-0), Thomas Jefferson-Richmond (6-0), Kettle Run (6-0), Armstrong (6-0), Turner Ashby (6-0), Alleghany (6-0), Liberty Christian (5-0).

Class 2 — Lebanon (7-0), Bruton (6-0), Poquoson (6-0), Strasburg (6-0), Buckingham County (6-0), Glenvar (6-0), Graham (6-0), Clarke County (5-0).

Class 1 — Rye Cove (7-0), Rappahannock (6-0), Altavista (6-0), Bath County (5-0).

Here are some other Week 2 notes:

*Three games this week pit unbeatens against each other: Graham at Lebanon, Glenvar at Alleghany, and Kettle Run at Sherando.

*Granby’s unbeaten record has the Comets no better than No. 5 in a very competitive Region 5B.

*Briar Woods, at 4-2, is the only team in Region 4D with a winning record.

*Huguenot’s 6-0 record has the Falcons behind No. 1 Varina and No. 2 Dinwiddie.

VHSL Rating Scale points are used to determine qualification and seeding for region playoffs. Columns listed are for VHSL-recognized games played, points accumulated and average. Each team’s average at the conclusion of the regular season determines its position for the postseason. Games played against non-VHSL-recognized opponents do not factor into the ratings.
