Former U.S. Rep. Tom Garrett is attempting a comeback after stepping away to recover from alcoholism. He faces Kevin Bailey and Jennie Wood in a convention on May 20.

Sen. Deeds and Del. Hudson are running in a state Senate district that runs from Albemarle County to Amherst County. Deeds has served in the General Assembly for over 30 years; Hudson, a progressive Democrat, has served in the House for five.

The winner of the June 20 Democratic primary will face state Sen. David Suetterlein, R-Roanoke County, in November. The newly drawn District 4 includes Roanoke, Salem, and parts of Roanoke and Montgomery counties.

He called Democrats “communists” and “groomers.” He will face Democrat Sam Soghor in a district that voted 73% Republican in 2021.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin had endorsed McGuire while U.S. Rep. Bob Good had backed Duane Adams. The district, which stretches from Appomattox County to Hanover County, voted 68% for Youngkin in 2021.

This fall he will face Democrat Lily Franklin in the most competitive House race in the western part of the state.

The suit claims that Bristol Women’s Health concealed the fact that it would provide abortions. The owner denies the allegation.

Speaker of the House Todd Gilbert snubbed Republican firebrand Marie March. He also backed Jason Ballard, the incumbent in the 42nd District.

House district 41, which encompasses Roanoke and Montgomery counties, is rated the most competitive district in the western region of Virginia. Republicans will choose between candidates Lowell Bowman and Chris Obenshain during a mass meeting on May 4.
