The Republican-controlled board will meet Thursday to appoint a new registrar. The current registrar had figured in a 2020 court case over some ballots being processed without a Republican representative present.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin had endorsed McGuire while U.S. Rep. Bob Good had backed Duane Adams. The district, which stretches from Appomattox County to Hanover County, voted 68% for Youngkin in 2021.
