The Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council will bring together a 20-person cohort of young STEM professionals for a year’s worth of learning.

The fiber-optic technology company, which is listed on the NASDAQ, has found transaction discrepancies that affect several reporting quarters.

During a meeting that drew more than 400 people, Russell County residents told county leaders they don’t want a landfill. But $1.3 million in rising costs over the next three years is pushing the county to consider the decision.

Virginia Tech’s Bevlee Watford and Goodwill Industries’ Zenith Barnett will speak at Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.

The 12-megawatt project is planned for 211 acres southeast of the town of Stuart. The board of supervisors’ 3-2 vote came after nearly two hours of discussion and two dozen speakers.

Equitrans Midstream, which says it plans to complete the pipeline by the end of the next quarter, will reunite with its former owner in an all-stock deal creating a $35 billion company.

The school in Southwest Virginia would be the first community college in the state to enter into a power purchase agreement with a solar developer. The project is expected to cut energy costs and boost the school’s workforce training efforts.

The project is expected to bring broadband access to more than 3,000 homes.

The United Mine Workers union has joined local opposition to the project. Building a landfill on a site associated with the Pittston Coal strike would be “disrespectful” and a “travesty,” a union leader said.

The federal money will help the county add roads and utilities as it builds out the second phase of the Floyd Regional Commerce Center.
