The company, which owns newspapers in Virginia and two dozen other states, saw its business operations significantly impacted by the Feb. 3 attack on its systems.

The county’s comprehensive plan, which guides its growth, was last updated in 2010, long before large housing developments or data center campuses were envisioned.

Buchanan Minerals LLC, a subsidiary of Coronado Coal, owns the mine, the largest underground mine in the state. In 2022, the company received a $3.52 million state grant for an expansion at the site.

A lawsuit filed in April 2024 claimed that the Roanoke-based company and its executives inflated share prices, which fell precipitously after Luna announced that those statements were unreliable.

The grant was slated to pay for energy-efficient housing, child-care center improvements and identifying safe locations for when natural disasters strike, among other projects.

The systems store electricity during off-peak times and release it during the highest-demand hours of the day. The goal is to reduce the utility’s dependence on the grid during peak times, lowering its costs.

Onetime dial-up behemoth EarthLink has reemerged in the 21st century under the leadership of Glenn Goad. The Atlanta-based company has opened a call center in Norton, for marketing and customer service.

Members of the public can share their thoughts on Dominion’s proposal either by submitting written comments or by signing up to speak at a September public hearing.

The Henry County IDA plans to enter into a purchase option agreement for a 1,200-acre parcel with an as-yet-unnamed company.
