The tiny community of Churchville in western Augusta County no longer has a doctor’s office. Its clinic was one of three recently shuttered by Augusta Health.

Bob Stuart is a University of Richmond graduate who has spent more than four decades working on Virginia and South Carolina newspapers. He served as the sports editor of The Orangeburg Times & Democrat, and spent more than a year covering York County, S.C. for The Rock Hill Herald. He worked as a bureau chief and police reporter for The State in Columbia, S.C. for a decade. Since the late 1990s, he covered Augusta County and Waynesboro for The Waynesboro News Virginian, as well as writing education and political stories.
