Virginia Tech’s ‘mock mine’ gives students experience working with minerals

he new Holden Hall features three pits, similar to sand pits on a playground, meant to simulate a real mine. The plan is for students to conduct projects with autonomous mining equipment and drones in the Mock Mine to learn mining fundamentals.

Mural of influential Black Tazewell citizens added to county courthouse

After Tazewell County citizens voted to keep a Confederate statue in front of the courthouse, a muralist proposed adding paintings of important Black citizens to the side of the building. “Standing Tall and Proud” was approved unanimously by the county board of supervisors.
