Montgomery County supervisors will review broadband growth, vote on a disaster relief agreement, consider pay incentives for county workers and more when they meet Monday.

The board will meet at 7:15 p.m. in the second-floor board chambers at the county government center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg.

Among significant agenda items are:

An update from GigaBeam and Appalachian Power on the county’s broadband expansion initiative:

During an April 15 Economic Development Authority meeting, Project Manager Carley Andrews said there are now 1,589 active broadband passings as part of the two broadband grant projects, according to meeting minutes. GigaBeam has placed more than 280 miles of new fiber.

A vote on approving a disaster relief memorandum of understanding with United Way of Southwest Virginia:

United Way’s regional disaster relief fund has been assisting the county with recovery from damage caused last fall by Hurricane Helene. A copy of the draft memorandum was not available on the county’s website as of Saturday.

Action on employee pay:

Supervisors will vote on a proposed one-time bonus for county workers. If approved, it will cost nearly $512,500, to be taken from the county’s undesignated general funds and state funding.

Also, the board will vote on an ordinance that would create a monetary performance incentive/bonus program for employees. Details were not available as of Saturday.

Adoption of the county’s six-year secondary road plan for fiscal years 2026 through 2031:

Planned uses for the $825,000 budget include: Paving unpaved roads with traffic counts of more than 50 vehicles per day; upgrading Route 712, Taylor Hollow Road; upgrading Route 609, Willis Hollow; upgrading Route 601, Poff School Road; and upgrading Route 827, Bobcat Lane.

Moving millions for school projects and upgrades:

Approving the transfer of about $3.05 million within the school system’s capital fund for these projects: Kipps Elementary School roof replacement, nearly $1.12 million; Kipps Elementary gym floor replacement change order, nearly $87,300; operations center parking lot completion, $930,000; Montgomery Central and operations center water line replacement, $523,900; parking lot upgrades at Christiansburg Elementary School, Falling Branch Elementary School and Christiansburg Middle School, $323,000; classroom furniture at Harding Avenue School, $70,000.

Also on the agenda:

— Appropriating $1 million to cover costs of the county’s real estate value reassessment and $100,000 for costs of the county’s real estate board of equalization.

— Hearing an update on activities of the Montgomery County-Blacksburg-Christiansburg regional tourism office.
