With temperatures expected to reach the mid-90s this week, the cities of Lynchburg and Roanoke have opened cooling centers for residents.

In Lynchburg, the locations are:

  • Lynchburg Public Library, Main Branch, 2315 Memorial Ave.: Monday and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday, 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. 
  • Lynchburg Public Library, Downtown Branch, 216 12th St.: Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday, noon-8 p.m.
  • Department of Human Services Lobby, 99 Ninth St: Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Miller Center, 301 Grove St.: Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Salvation Army, 2215 Park Ave.: Dining room open through Wednesday, noon-4 p.m. daily.

In Roanoke, public libraries are open during regular hours as community cooling centers. The city will provide bottled water for distribution at libraries.
