E.C. Glass boys deny Salem another state title

Updated June 13

Region 4D rivals E.C. Glass and Salem collided Saturday in the VHSL Class 4 boys lacrosse final and the result was similar to the region championship: a narrow Glass victory.

The Hilltoppers defeated Salem 10-8 at Heritage High in Leesburg to prevent the Spartans from repeating as state champion.

The title was the second for E.C. Glass as the Hilltoppers were crowned in 2018.

Other state lacrosse winners Saturday were Independence (Class 6 boys), Riverside (Class 5 boys and girls), James Madison (Class 6 girls) and Western Albemarle (Class 4 girls).

Lacrosse: Salem boys advance to title game

Updated June 9

Salem kept its hopes alive for a second successive Virginia High School League Class 4 boys lacrosse championship Tuesday with a 6-4 semifinal victory over Hanover.

The Spartans will see a familiar foe in Saturday’s 10 a.m. state final at Heritage High in Leesburg when they meet up with E.C. Glass, a 15-7 semifinal winner over Meridian High of Falls Church.

Rockbridge County’s bid for a berth in the Class 4 girls final came up short in a 16-11 semifinal loss to Western Albemarle.
