Supervisors will consider spending resolutions on the sheriff’s office efforts to update the department’s uniforms at the supervisors’ 3 p.m. meeting Tuesday at the county’s administrative building.
Sheriff Wayne Davis has requested an appropriation totaling $31,200 to purchase dress shirts as part of the uniform transition.
Davis is also requesting that supervisors approve a $53,700 contract with a North Carolina-based company, Read’s Uniforms. Davis plans to cover the contract cost with the requested appropriation and an additional $22,500 from the department’s current-year budget.
Ridgeway officials are also hoping the county will approve their request to rename a bridge.
The bridge, located on U.S. 220 Business, leads directly into Ridgeway’s Main Street. Earlier this month, Ridgeway’s board approved a resolution formally naming the bridge the Mayor Edward M. Page Sr. Memorial Bridge.
A former Ridgeway mayor, Page died in July. Page served as Ridgeway mayor and town manager for 24 years.
Page was also a lifelong Ridgeway resident.
“Mayor Page worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for Ridgeway residents and his leadership was marked by vision, persistence, and a deep commitment to community development,” reads part of the resolution supervisors will vote on Tuesday.
The bridge wasn’t chosen at random. During his tenure, Page played a role in securing funds to replace the bridge.
If approved, Ridgeway officials will forward their resolution to the Commonwealth Transportation Board for their approval.
According to the county’s resolution, the Commonwealth Transportation Board is the authority on providing names to structures like bridges within the state.
“Section 33.2-213 provides that the Virginia Department of Transportation shall place and maintain appropriate signs indicating the names of highways, bridges, interchanges, and other transportation facilities named by the CTB,” reads part of the county’s resolution.
Costs related to manufacturing, erecting and maintaining signage fall under the purview of the locality making the request.
