On Tuesday, the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors will vote, for the second time, on the county’s fiscal year 2026 budget. The board voted unanimously in favor of the budget allocations on May 13.

According to the county’s revised budget packet, the plan totals about $272 million, which is an increase of almost $12 million from the previous fiscal year.

The county expects an estimated $6 million increase in real estate tax revenue, a $3.5 million increase in personal property tax revenue, and increases in fees and other taxes.

The county also proposed a 1-cent reduction in the real estate tax, which would bring the rate to $1.03 per $100 of assessed value.

The school division will get a $3.67 million increase over what it received last year. County documents show that the county has increased funding to the schools steadily since fiscal year 2021. The proposed allocation to the schools for the coming year is almost $100 million, not including capital investments.

The budget also includes a 3% cost-of-living increase for all county employees, except for those on the public safety step plans, who will receive a 1.75% salary increase.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held in the Roanoke County Administration Center at 2 p.m. The meetings are livestreamed and can be watched here. Those interested in the full agenda can find it here.
