A nine-mile stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway from the Montvale Overlook south of the Peaks of Otter to U.S. 460 will close April 14 for a road restoration project that could last until fall 2026.

The closure will be between milepost 95.9 and 106. In the coming months, the parkway will also make a series of smaller closures between milepost 106, near U.S. 460, and milepost 121, near U.S. 220. That work is also expected to be finished by fall 2026, accoring to the National Park Service.

A signed detour will direct travelers around the closure via Virginia 43 through Bedford and U.S. 460 north of Vinton. Appalachian Trail hikers are advised to “coordinate arrangements for any support at Montvale Overlook or points further north on the parkway.”

The $75 million project includes slope stabilization, road resurfacing, repair or replacement of drainage structures, curbs, walks, shoulders, guardrails, stone walls, overlooks, pavement markings, and signage, the park service said. The project has been ongoing with single-lane closures since last summer.

Updated road status and detour maps can be found on the Blue Ridge Parkway’s website.
