 Jennifer Valente is closer to earning her fourth Olympics medal.

The California native, who trains in the Roanoke Valley with the Blue Ridge TWENTY24 cycling team, will go for gold on Wednesday.

Valente, 29, and USA Cycling teammates Chloe Dygart, Kristen Faulkner and Lily Williams placed second in qualifying Tuesday in the Women’s Team Pursuit event.

The American foursome covered 4 kilometers in the Saint Quentin-en-Yvelines Veldrome in 4 minutes, 5.238 seconds to grab the No. 2 spot behind New Zealand’s 4:04.679.

Great Britain placed third in 4:06.7.10 followed by Italy, Germany, Australia, France and Canada.

The United States will race against Great Britain in the first knockout round at 8:12 a.m. EDT Wednesday in hopes of making the final scheduled for 12:57 p.m. EDT Wednesday.

Valente, a San Diego native, won a gold medal in the Women’s Omnium and a bronze team pursuit in Tokyo in 2021. She earned a silver medal in team pursuit in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
