The Blue Ridge Music Center is presenting Zoe & Cloyd and The Burnett Sisters Band with Colin Ray at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 25, in the outdoor amphitheater. The Music Center is located at milepost 213 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, just south of Galax and 30 minutes from Sparta and Mount Airy, N.C.
Zoe & Cloyd combined original bluegrass, klezmer, old-time, and folk. The band’s name comes from renowned fiddler and vocalist Natalya Zoe Weinstein and award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist John Cloyd Miller.
While currently living in Asheville, N.C., Weinstein and Miller originally hail from opposite ends of the Appalachian Mountains. Coming from a lineage of klezmer and jazz musicians, Weinstein trained classically in Massachusetts before moving south in 2004. Miller, a 12th generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler, Jim Shumate, earned first place in the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest as well as an Artist Fellowship for songwriting from the North Carolina Arts Council. Both Weinstein and Miller are instructors in the Traditional Music Program at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina.
Opening the show is The Burnett Sisters Band with Colin Ray. The Burnett Sisters grew up playing music together in Boone, N.C. This Billboard charting band has arepertoire that is equal parts old-time and bluegrass, country and gospel. The Burnett Sisters Band were the winners of the 2022 Merlefest Band Contest.
Tickets are $20, children 12 and younger are admitted free of charge. Advance tickets are available online at BlueRidgeMusicCenter.org. Day of show tickets can be purchased at the admission gates in the evening.
Parking opens at 5:15 p.m. and is free. Admission to the amphitheater begins at 5:45 p.m.
The Galax Smokehouse will offer barbecue, home-style sides, and beverages for purchase during the concert.
