The theme of the daylong conference at Roanoke College is “Confused about cannabis?” and will feature speakers who will address the political, economic, health and legal aspects of cannabis.

After the U.S. withdrew, many were “left behind” in a country where women are not allowed to earn degrees, said English instructor Rachel Willis.

Roanoke College, Emory & Henry College and Mountain Gateway Community College will not have to resubmit their applications, but they will need to find four-year public universities to partner with.

Public schools in Southwest Virginia are in the midst of a dramatic enrollment decline leading some divisions to close schools. In Franklin County, Wednesday marks the final day for two small, rural elementary schools.

The university, which has been involved in drone research for years, denies the allegation, and publicly available information doesn’t show a connection.

Swords Creek and Copper Creek elementary schools will close at the end of this school year. Their combined 240 students will move to other schools within the county.

They also continue to call for the school to divest of any investments tied to Israel.

The school board had sued a parent for $600,000 for not following a communication plan his son’s school had imposed. But the parent said the school was refusing to comply with the student’s special education plan.

Virginia Tech requires students who have been arrested to report it to the Office of Student Conduct. Consequences of a conduct hearing can range from a formal warning to a probationary period to suspension or dismissal from campus.

All were charged with trespassing. They had refused to leave the site of the pro-Palestine encampment after they were told by university officials to disperse.
