State legislators from Southwest Virginia are asking for up to $65 million to plan the inland port site, acquire the land and then build the facility. If successful, the new port would likely be located between Wytheville and Bristol.

The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine are about a mile from the old American Viscose factory site, and both are looking to grow soon. Not only could the renovated factory be a site for expansion, it could offer more rental housing and fun space to attract students and young researchers.

Virginia Senate panel to hear 15-week abortion ban bill
Gov. Youngkin has been working with Republican legislators to draft an abortion bill that could pass a divided legislature since Roe v. Wade fell. Senate Democrats, who hold a 22-18 majority, say all restrictions to abortion will be a non-starter for them.
