On Tuesday afternoon, the Roanoke City Council will vote on a new naming, advertising and sponsorship agreement for the civic center with Berglund Management Group.
The Berglund Management Group has had naming rights over the city’s civic center — now called the Berglund Center — since 2014.
That original 10-year term was supposed to end in September 2024, but because the pandemic caused the facility to be closed to the public, the term of agreement was extended to the end of November 2025, agenda documents state.
The new term proposed by the city will last one year, but can be extended two more years.
Berglund will pay the city $100,000 annually for the license fee.
With the agreement, the Berglund group will have advertising rights, placement of signage around the building and rent-free use of the building twice per year for company functions, according to the agenda documents.
Because the term of the new agreement is less than five years, the city was not required to solicit bids for the naming rights prior to making the agreement, as was required for the initial10-year agreement.
Also, during Tuesday’s afternoon meeting, the city manager will present two briefings: one on the fiscal year 2027 budget development process and another on the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan update.
During the 7 p.m. public hearing, the city will consider a lease agreement between the city and the Orvis Company for continued retail space in the Center in the Square Parking Garage.
Tuesday’s council sessions will be held at 2 and 7 p.m. in the city council chamber at 215 Church Ave. Those who wish to view the full agenda for Tuesday’s meetings can do so here. Both sessions on Tuesday will be livestreamed on YouTube for those who cannot attend in person.
