The Roanoke City Council is looking to accept additional funding from the Western Virginia Water Authority for water line improvements on the recently extended Tinker Creek Greenway.
The city accepted almost $130,000 in September for the Tinker Creek Greenway Construction Utility Relocation. During the construction, according to city documents, a 12-inch water line near Masons Mill Bridge, owned and operated by the water authority, was discovered to be “in conflict.”
The city incorporated the water line relocation into the project construction with a contract change and a funding agreement with the water authority.
This would bring the total reimbursement for the project from the water authority to the city to $155,800. City staff are recommending that the council accept the ordinance.
The newest section of the Tinker Creek Greenway opened this fall at the 13th Street Northeast trailhead. The main stretch of this greenway runs from the Roanoke River north to Wise Avenue at Fallon Park. An additional natural trail section runs from Hollins to Carvins Cove.
On Monday, the council will also address a request for a public hearing for tax exemption on property at 530 Day Ave. and 1018 Patterson Ave. owned by LLCs associated with the nonprofit Restoration Housing. Restoration Housing’s mission, according to city documents, is to develop affordable rental properties for underresourced communities. The request is for a public hearing on Dec. 16.
