Tuesday: Floyd Town Council to hold rescheduled meeting
Floyd’s town council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting agenda includes a citizen comment period from 5:30 to 5:45 p.m. and a discussion/action on the town’s finances from 6 to 6:30 pm. The fiscal year 2026 budget is available here. Documents for fiscal year 2027 have not been posted online.
The town council usually meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month, but last Thursday’s meeting was rescheduled for this Tuesday. The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the Proffit House Community Room at Floyd Town Hall at 203 E. Oxford St.
Friday: Christiansburg’s sustainability committee to hold spring meeting
Christiansburg’s sustainability committee will meet at 10 a.m. Friday. An agenda has not been posted. The committee meets four times a year, in January, April, July and October. This week’s meeting will be held in the administrative conference room of the Christiansburg Town Hall at 100 E. Main St.
Saturday: Christiansburg holds inaugural Earth Fest
Christiansburg is hosting its first Earth Fest from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Christiansburg Huckleberry Park. The family-friendly event will feature outdoor yoga, farm animals, hands-on 4-H activities, a produce market showcasing local agriculture and a variety of food and beverage trucks. At 4 p.m., town council member Beth Umberger will lead a tree-planting.
From 5 to 8 p.m., Southwest Virginia country musician Travis Reigh will perform. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
According to the event page, “The celebration is designed to raise awareness, recognize farmers, agriculturists, environmental stewards, and educators, and bring our community together to celebrate the land, resources, and natural surroundings that sustain us all.”
Sunday: Virginia Tech hosts International Street Fair
The 65th annual International Street Fair, which will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, will feature customs and traditions from 40 countries. The fair will begin with a global cultural parade. Throughout the afternoon, there will be dancing and music performances in front of Torgersen Bridge; booths with cultural displays; interactive presentations; traditional games, arts, and crafts; and food trucks featuring cuisine from all over the globe.
