Voyant Beauty, a Chicago-based manufacturer of personal care and beauty products, will close its Roanoke plant this summer, laying off about 95 people.
The company said in a letter to state officials that the layoffs will occur in two phases, around the end of June and the end of August.
“The Company will permanently cease manufacturing operations in the Roanoke facility no later than August 31, 2026 with the intention of keeping it open and functioning in a different limited capacity,” Voyant Beauty said in a letter to Virginia Works, the state’s workforce development agency.
The letter was sent to comply with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or the WARN Act, which requires employers to provide advance notice of mass layoffs.
The company did not offer a reason for the closure. A representative of Voyant Beauty could not be reached for comment Monday evening.
The company’s Roanoke plant is located at 4411 Plantation Road N.E. Employees there are not represented by a union, according to the letter.
According to Voyant Beauty’s website, the Roanoke facility produces creams, body wash, shower gels and other skin care products.
The company celebrated the Roanoke plant’s ribbon-cutting in October 2019 and said at that time that it would add about 100 jobs to the region.
The company has 12 manufacturing locations across the U.S., Canada and Europe and employs more than 3,000 people, according to its website.
