Montgomery County supervisors will learn about the school system’s budget plans and vote on expansion of a subdivision when they meet Monday.
The county board is also set to commit funds for law enforcement, fire hydrants, payments to the city of Radford and the federal government and a special referendum on redistricting.
Supervisors will meet at 7:15 p.m. in the second floor board chambers of the county government center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg.
Third phase of Walnut Creek subdivision, already approved by planning commission, up for vote by supervisors
Supervisors will vote on approving the plat for section three of the third phase of the Walnut Creek subdivision off Houchins Road near Christiansburg. The county Planning Commission voted for approval earlier this month.
More than 100 acres was reclassified for housing in 2005 to begin construction of the subdivision.
The new plat up for approval envisions construction of 30 single-family attached (townhouse) residential lots, along with nearly a half-acre of dedicated open space. The lots will get water from the town of Christiansburg and get sewer service from the county Public Service Authority.
No preview of school budget proposal presentation
County school system officials will give a presentation on the upcoming fiscal 2026-27 budget. No link was provided to the proposal in the agenda packet.
Preparing for the state referendum and other appropriations
Supervisors will vote to appropriate county dollars as follows:
— $80,000 to the elections office for an April state referendum on redrawing congressional districts ahead of the November election. However, a Tazewell County circuit court judge has temporarily blocked the referendum on the grounds that the legislation contains flaws. The case and a previous referendum-related decision have been appealed to the state Supreme Court.
— Nearly $65,800 to Radford as part of a revenue sharing agreement due to increased collection of transient occupancy, sales and meals taxes.
— Nearly $33,800 to the county Public Service Authority for fire hydrant maintenance.
— More than $5,700 seized in county sheriff’s office of drug task force investigations, with more than $4,300 going to the sheriff’s office and the rest going to the commonwealth’s attorney’s office.
— A required $6,500 rebate to the federal government because unspent bond proceeds earned more interest than the amount of interest paid on the bonds.
