A new residential development, apartment complex and medical education building could be coming to the NRV based on three public meetings this week.
Monday: Christiansburg Planning Commission to vote on rezoning 37-plus acres from agriculture to residential
At 7 p.m. Monday, the Christiansburg Planning Commission will vote on rezoning more than 37 acres at 300 Kimball Lane from agriculture to single-family residential to allow for a housing development of 53 detached homes. The homes are proposed to be built within three years of rezoning approval. The initial proposal for the development was revised based on town residents’ concerns at the public hearing on Jan. 20. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Christiansburg Town Hall at 100 E. Main St.
Tuesday: Christiansburg Town Council to vote on apartment complex
Because of winter weather, the Christiansburg Town Council regular meeting was rescheduled from last week to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The council will vote on a 28-unit apartment complex proposed for the vacant 2-plus acre parcel between 101 Chrisman St. S.W. and 400 W. Main St. The proposed complex includes two three/four split story buildings with 14 units each and associated parking for residents. A public hearing was held on Jan. 13.
The Christiansburg Town Council meeting will also include public hearings on a budget amendment to rollover capital projects and capital items from the previous fiscal year and a franchise agreement with broadband provider GigaBeam Networks to install fiber in the town’s rights-of-way to serve as a communications line. The lease of public property for Wing’s drone test delivery zone was removed from the agenda at Wing’s request. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Christiansburg Town Hall at 100 E. Main St. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the town of Christiansburg’s YouTube channel.
Tuesday: Blacksburg Planning Commission to hold public hearing on VCOM’s proposed renovations and new building
The Blacksburg Planning Commission regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday will include a public hearing on a building project proposed by the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The proposed project includes renovations of the existing VCOM building and a new two-story building at VCOM’s current location, 1701 Kraft Drive. VCOM submitted a revised application after the town’s engineering department denied its stormwater plan because of omissions and errors. The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building at 300 S. Main St.
