Henry County supervisors will discuss organizational issues at their first meeting of 2026, scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday in the county administration building.

On the agenda are a number of procedural tasks to prepare for the coming year, which include establishing meeting dates.

Not including special meetings and unplanned closed sessions, the board usually meets the fourth Tuesday of each month. The exception is December, when the date is moved to avoid conflicts with holidays.

Supervisors are expected to adopt procedural bylaws at Friday’s meeting. The bylaws dictate meeting attendance, the agenda and public participation, among other things.

The bylaws state that all meetings are open to the public and that members of the public have the opportunity to speak at public meetings during a designated part of each meeting. Those who want to address the board must contact the county administrator’s office seven days prior to a meeting. While the board can accommodate those who sign up afterward, priority is given to those who meet the seven-day deadline.

The budget calendar for the upcoming 2026-2027 fiscal year is also on Friday’s agenda. During the months leading up to the July 1 start of the new fiscal year, supervisors will work with county staff to hash out a budget they feel meets the needs of residents.

Under the proposed calendar, departmental budget requests are due Feb. 6, followed by a joint session with the school board on Feb. 24.

A presentation of the total county budget is scheduled for April 2, with a work session looking at the school budget and total budget on April 7.

The current calendar also has a public hearing scheduled on April 20 with a full budget adoption on April 28.

The current calendar could be subject to date changes and additional work sessions as the budget process continues.
