Abingdon dental clinic expansion receives $150,000 pledge
Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Charities has received a pledge of $150,000 to equip the expansion of its dental clinic in Abingdon, the nonprofit has announced.
The pledge from The Secular Society requires a full community match; AHCDC has begun raising funds.
“This commitment from The Secular Society is both a generous and an extraordinary opportunity,” Rachel Helton, executive director of AHCDC, said in a news release. “Currently, AHCDC has 3,100 individuals in need of a dental appointment. During this time of year, as we think of those in need, I hope the community will help us meet our match goal of $150,000 and help us cross this important finish line on this $1,300,000 project.”

This funding will equip seven brand-new dental operatories currently under construction, according to the news release. At the completion of the project, AHCDC will have 21 dental operatories.
The clinic provides dental care to residents of 14 counties in Southwest Virginia.
