Update 9:50 a.m. Nov. 7: The Nov. 13 listening session will be held at the Western Virginia Water Authority’s field operations center in Hollins, at 3322 Hollins Road N.E.

The city of Roanoke will hold four community listening sessions this month as it works to develop a skills course for nonprofit leaders and community engagement training opportunities.

“The community is invited to attend the session that works best for them and share their experiences, big or small, working with the City,” said an email from Molly Hunter, neighborhood services coordinator with the city. “This feedback will help create a City-wide Community Engagement policy.”

The sessions are a part of Engagement Ready Roanoke, a collaboration with Virginia Tech’s Institute for Policy and Governance. According to the Engagement Ready Roanoke page on the city’s website, the feedback from these sessions will be used to “develop a foundational nonprofit skills course” and “community engagement training” for city and community leaders.

An online survey will be available here for those who cannot attend an in-person session, the email states. Dinner will be provided at the in-person sessions.

Here are the details for the four scheduled sessions:

  • 6:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 12, Patrick Henry High School cafeteria, 2102 Grandin Road S.W.
  • 6:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 13, Western Virginia Water Authority field operations center, 3322 Hollins Road N.E.
