On Monday evening, the Roanoke City Council will hear public input on a proposed city code amendment to ban hybrid dogs within the city, allowing for existing hybrids to remain if the owners register the animals and “adhere to the same standards the City currently requires for dangerous dogs,” the agenda report states.
The definition of a “hybrid canine,” the agenda report states, includes “any owner who has registered, licensed, advertised or otherwise described or represented an animal as a hybrid canine, hybrid wolf, wolf, coyote, or percentage wolf or coyote.”
This follows an issue in the Greater Deyerle area, where the owners of hybrid-wolf dogs had charges placed against them after an incident on June 26 involving the dogs. The charges were recently dismissed, according to the Greater Deyerle Neighborhood Association’s website.
Also during Monday evening’s public hearing, the council will consider a rezoning of property at 2657 Peters Creek Road N.W. for a Taco Bell with a drive-thru.
The applicant, Charter Foods, based out of Tennessee, is a franchisee of Yum! Brands, which operates Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut Express and A&W stores, according to the company’s Facebook page.
The property, currently zoned Commercial-Neighborhood, operated as a financial institution until closure in recent years, according to the agenda report. The Peters Creek North Neighborhood Plan and City Plan 2040 designate this property for neighborhood commercial use with a village center.
The applicant is looking to rezone the property to Commercial-General with conditions to allow for the construction of a new drive-thru.
