A public hearing on improvements to a section of U.S. 11, Lee Highway, in the Exit 7 area of Bristol will be held Monday by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The hearing offers local residents an opportunity to review design plans for the project, which will improve traffic flow and safety along the highway between the intersections of Alexis Drive and Old Airport Road, according to a news release by VDOT.
It will be held from 4-7 p.m. at Virginia Intermediate School, 350 Van Pelt Circle. The hearing will be an open house, drop-in format.
The project will widen the highway to two lanes in each direction; add turn lanes at four intersections with traffic signals; add a raised median between the northbound and southbound lanes; improve four signalized intersections; and construct new sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian signals.
Comments about the project can be provided until July 17 by:
- Calling VDOT project manager Kayla Thacker at 276-669-6151,
