Roanoke County hosts community meetings about Glenvar plan
Roanoke County will host two community meetings to learn about residents’ preferences for the Glenvar Center Plan, which will examine the land use, housing, community facilities, transportation and natural and cultural resources of the Glenvar area, according to a news release from the county.
The meetings will be held at Fort Lewis Elementary School from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and again on May 7. The format will be open-house style, and the content of the two meetings will be identical.
An online survey and additional information about the Glenvar Center Plan will be available
at www.RoanokeCountyVA.gov/Glenvar starting April 30. The survey will remain open until
May 30. Paper copies of the survey will be available at the community meetings as well as
at the Glenvar Library. A second round of community meetings will be held in the fall.

Youngkin announces board appointments
Gov. Glenn Youngkin has announced a new round of state board and council appointments, including these residents of Southwest and Southside:
Breaks Interstate Park Commission: Jessica Savage of Buchanan County, chief strategic officer and co-owner, West River Conveyors.
Board of Education: Beth Ackerman of Campbell County, senior vice president, Rivermont Schools.
Virginia Addiction and Recovery Council: Rebecca Holmes of Washington County, executive director, Highlands Community Services Board.

Abingdon child care center hosts financial aid application assistance and open house
Families who live in Virginia and have children up to age 5 are invited to a financial aid application support session and open house at Ballad Health Center for Early Learning – Abingdon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Attendees will receive assistance in completing applications for Virginia’s Child Care Subsidy Program waitlist and can take guided tours of the center’s early‑learning classrooms and playgrounds.
Families who want to apply for assistance must bring:
- Proof of the child’s U.S. citizenship or legal residency (birth certificate, U.S. passport or immigration documentation).
- Current immunization record or physician‑signed form.
- Household income verification (recent pay stubs, most recent tax return or official benefits letter).
Virginia’s Child Care Subsidy Program offers financial assistance to eligible families with children under 13 who are unable to attend public school. For eligibility guidelines and additional resources, visit childcare.virginia.gov/families/paying-for-child-care.
