Henry County residents will have the chance to share their thoughts on a proposed event center at an upcoming public hearing.

The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 27. The county’s board of zoning appeals will preside over the public hearing which will be held in the Summerlin Meeting Room of the County Administration Building, Kings Mountain Road, Collinsville.

The property is located at 874 Flanigan Branch Road in Ridgeway. The property is currently zoned as A-1 agricultural. All adjacent property owners have been notified of the application.

The applicant is Marty Rhodes, a Ridgeway resident.

The application describes the proposed event space as primarily for small events such as birthdays, weddings and baby showers.

Zoning staff considers the property to be in line with Henry County’s comprehensive plan.

The board of zoning appeals will also listen to arguments for or against the group that wants to erect a powerline higher than permitted in the bylaws.

Appalachian Power Co. put forth the appeal for a taller-than-usual transmission line. While ordinances state lines may not exceed 75 feet, the company wants one 10 feet higher.

The property is at 114 George Martin Drive in Ridgeway.
