The Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening a disaster recovery center in Wythe County, the seventh such office to open in Southwest Virginia since the remnants of Hurricane Helene brought significant flooding to the region late last month.
The new center is at the Heritage Preservation Center at 115 West Spiller Street in Wytheville and will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. Disaster survivors can visit any Disaster Recovery Center. To find the DRC closest to you, including addresses and hours, visit FEMA.gov/drc or text DRC and a ZIP code to 43362.
Other Disaster Recovery Centers in Virginia are at:
- Christiansburg: The Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke Street
- Damascus: 736 North Beaver Dam Avenue
- Dublin: 5581 Fairgrounds Circle, Dublin
- Independence: 578 Main Street B.
- Marion: Public Safety Administration Building, 230 S. Park Street
- Tazewell: The County Administration Building, 197 Main Street
All the centers are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Disaster survivors can visit any disaster relief center to receive assistance but do not have to stop by in person to register with FEMA, according to a news release from the agency. Residents in need of help can also call 800-621-FEMA (3362) or register online at DisasterAssistance.gov or through the FEMA app.
Residents who received a letter from FEMA about their application status can visit a disaster recovery center to learn more about next steps. Staff can help with the application process and answer questions.
The deadline to apply for FEMA disaster assistance is Dec. 2.
