Infamous Weekend returns to Pop’s Farm in Martinsville

Grammy-winning progressive bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters and nonprofit Rooster Walk Inc. are again joining to produce The Infamous Weekend, Sept. 19-21 at Pop’s Farm in Martinsville.

The event, which launched last year, will expand to three days at Pop’s Farm, the home of the Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival. The Infamous Stringdusters will play six sets, and the lineup also includes performances by Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, The Lil Smokies, The Last Revel, Dangermuffin, Jon Stickley Trio, Falco & Book play Garcia, The Wilson Springs Hotel, Isaac Hadden, Florencia & The Feeling, TC Carter Band and The Fly Birds.

The event will include on-site camping, food, art and craft vendors, outdoor excursions and children’s activities.

Agee to receive top award from American Hospital Association

Nancy Howell Agee, CEO of Carilion Clinic, will receive the Distinguished Service Award from the American Hospital Association.

The award, the top honor granted by the association, will be presented at a ceremony next week in Washington.

Agee has led Roanoke-based Carilion since 2011. Among the achievements cited by the AHA was her work in forging a partnership with Virginia Tech to create the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

“Nancy is committed to finding solutions that provide the best quality for patient care experience and expanding access to all those in the communities Carilion serves,” AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack said in the news release. “Drawing on her experience as a nurse and a hospital leader, Nancy is well known for her deep passion for patients and her dedication to mentoring other women leaders.”

Agee, who led the AHA board in 2018, is the current chair of the board of the Coalition to Strengthen America’s Health Care. She previously chaired the AHA Committee on Health Care Strategy and Innovation, according to the release.

She also served as a member of the executive committee, the operations committee, the committee on health systems and the Joint Commission board.

Agee received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree from Emory University. She chairs the GO Virginia board and serves on Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s Medical Advisory Team.

Ballad names Hilton as CFO; Krutak to retire

Ballad Health has named Shane Hilton as its new chief financial officer. He replaces Lynn Krutak, who will retire June 30, according to a news release from Ballad.

Hilton began his health care career in 1991 as a pharmacy technician at Holston Valley Medical Center. Over the years, he has served in roles including controller of regional financial operations and chief financial officer of market operations for all hospitals. Outside of health care, Hilton is a farmer who raises cattle and sheep.

Krutak has served as chief financial officer since Ballad’s inception in 2018; prior to that, she was executive vice president and chief financial officer for Mountain States Health Alliance, one of the two health systems that merged to create Ballad.
