Runnin’ Shine and Calista Garcia to play in Clifton Forge

Clifton Forge’s Summer Music Series will feature two acts on August 13.

Folk-rock singer-songwriter Calista Garcia will perform at 5 p.m. She appeared on Season 16 of NBC’s The Voice and has been likened to ’70s classic acts such as Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell.

Meanwhile, the country band Runnin’ Shine will play at 7 p.m. The band has been named the Veer Magazine 2019, 2020, 2021 Country Artist of the Year and was a 2020 Josie Award Nominee, 2021 Josie Award Recipient, and Great American Song Writing Finalist.

University of Lynchburg to host meteor shower party Aug. 13

The University of Lynchburg’s Nature Center will host a Perseids meteor shower part at the Belk Observatory on Aug. 13.

  • Time: 8-11:30 p.m. (Event may be canceled in the event of inclement weather.)
  • Registration required, event is on Facebook.
  • There will be a brief talk/show at 8:30 p.m. about the recently released James Webb Space Telescope images.

Lynchburg Art Festival will be Sept. 17.

The 49th Annual Lynchburg Art Festival, which will be held on September 17th (rain date: September 18th) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at E.C. Glass High School.  More than 140 artists from across Virginia and surrounding states will be displaying and selling their art in a   wide range of mediums including watercolor, oil, pastel painting, encaustic, sculpture, drawing, acrylic, mixed media, and photography.

Artists will also be vying for $5,000 in awards that are sponsored by the local community and businesses.

The Festival is sponsored in part by Centra Health and City of Lynchburg Office of Economic Development & Tourism. Proceeds from the Lynchburg Art Festival provide for the continuation of the Shirley D. Hobbs Scholarship Fund. Established in 2000, this four-year college scholarship totals $4,000 and provides support each year for an area high school senior who is interested in a degree in art.
